    REFURBISHMENT Apartment building

    (Munich)

This late 19th century apartment building is situated on the Theresienhöhe in the neighbourhood of Westend in Munich. The front building houses flats and a little shop. The rear building, which is accessed via a small courtyard, was formerly a smithery. Today it maintains its commercial use and houses young creative companies.

The builder wants to carry out several refurbishment and rehabilitation measures over the next years which includes façades, main staircase and courtyard, single bathrooms and entire flats.

The first realised project is the refurbishment of a 44m2 flat in the front building. After a complete demolition of all its interiors, this entirely renovated flat serves to house private guests as well as to be rented on a weekly basis.

    WEIHNACHTSBELEUCHTUNG Christmas lights

    (Berlin)

Three light installations were realised on Kurfürstendamm: the first, a huge light dome with a diameter of 7,5m, at Joachimstaler Platz, the second consisting of five big three-dimensional light cubes at the crossing with Uhlandstrasse, and the third, an artificial lanscape build of 50 light shrubs, at the crossing with Knesebeckstrasse.

What all three installations have in common is that we want to achieve an atmospheric effect with them. Rather than typical decorations that represent Christmas through objects or symbols that are contemplated from the outside, we want to create a space that can be entered and experienced. We imagine this artificial space in the city as a place of retreat, similar to an imaginary clearance in a forest. The atmosphere surrounding the spectator is produced only with light that alters its density and intensity constantly through the visitor’s movement and changing perspective.

    WINTERLIGHTS Elisabethplatz

    (Munich)

The installation consists of 14 disc like light motives that hang horizontally above the visitors. The motives have a diameter of 2,20m and an average of 1600 light points. The design of the motive pattern varies. The project is the result of a restricted competition organised by the City Council of Munich.

The project focuses not only on the design of the light motives but especially on the atmospheric effect that will be created. The lighting deals with the public space around the market kiosks. The light motives hang like big chandeliers above the visitors and turn the mostly dark space between the kiosks and trees in the winter months into a bright access hall to the market.

    Technical data:

lighting of the 14 light motives with a combination of LED light rope and LED bulbs in white colour on aluminium structure.

Light points: average of 1600 light points per motive /

    total: 22 400 light points

    wattage: average 120 W per light motive / total: 1680 W
